STAND TALL

This is one my cowriter Ron Helm and I knocked out quickly this past week! No deep profound lyrics, just a straightforward simple message about having the faith and confidence to take on the big challenges of life! It's certainly still a work in progress as I need to sharpen up some of the vocal parts! Especially the harmonies! They are more complicated than I usually do on a song. Ron and I are appreciative of your time spent listening and hope you like it!

You wake up every morning
Looking for an answer
To get you through another day
Looking out the window
It only brings you more pain
When all you see is fog and rain
Listen to that quiet voice say

Stand tall you won't fall
I've got you
You can fly high
There's nothing you can't do

With Him you're gonna stand tall
With Him You'll rise above all
Mountains, that through faith will fall
Just trust He'll move your mountain
Today, maybe tomorrow
If only one stone at a time
It all will be done in His time

Stand tall you won't fall
He's got you
(Use your faith and you're gonna see
those mountains fall down to the ground)
You can fly high there's nothing you can't do
(Use your faith and you're gonna see
those mountains fall down to the ground)

Oh that long and rocky road
You know was the wrong way to go
Listen to the Good Shepard's voice
Listen and He'll walk with you

Stand tall you won't fall
He's got you
(Use your faith and you're gonna see
those mountains fall down to the ground)
You can fly high there's nothing you can't do
(Use your faith and you're gonna see
those mountains fall down to the ground)

Stand tall you won't fall
He's got you
(Use your faith and you're gonna see
those mountains fall down to the ground)
You can fly high there's nothing you can't do

Sounds great Torrey!

Very interesting style for Praise and Worship.

Sounds like you had some help from John Lennon, ELO and King Crimson!!

Torrey...you and Ron are building a very impressive catalogue of music...I really like this song...maybe a bit more of an edge than some of your collaborative work with Ron...I agree with David about some influences heard in the track...but they're all good...the descant lines are way cool and the edge on the rock guitar work is powerful and adds some real bite to the music...love it! You're certainly correct about the complexity of the harmonies but I don't hear much of anything to be changed or "sharpened"...your production work and mix is spot-on IMHO...great message in a great package!

I hear some Beatles (John and George), some Todd Rundgren, and a whole lotta killer Torrey Bliss!!!! You remind me of everything I love about 70's music!!!! Some really intricate musicianship here......I cannot conceive of how you pull that off!!! WQNDERFUL!!! Take care. Greg

Torrey,
DOD are pretty cool aren't they?
Extra points for ignoring the worn template of so much P&W music.
That bass growl and heft is wonderful.
Lots of hearts on the sleeve but the hand beyond the cuff is you and, man, you've created a wonderful piece of music.
As someone not particularly receptive to the message I was captured by the musical elements, the package including lyrics, and didn't want the song to end.

Cheers

Smack in my face. At first it sounded a bit UNlike you singing, like it was a different mic or mix, but then you shined through as only you can do, Torrey. Love those harmonies. You and Ron deliver such polish and always enjoyable. Nice bass and the guitar is always so pro, and great taste for the song.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Good to hear heavier song from you for a change. Dark mood in the music reflects nicely those mountains of life.
Great sounding hard rock arrangement. Enjoyed those heavy guitar riffs together with the vocal harmonies.
Inviting intro and very interesting chord to end the song, I like it.
Pleasant surprise, very creative work.

LOVE that opening!
I really like how much attention you pay to that opening - in all your songs. A cut above.

Killer drum sound. Punchy Bass!
Excellent vocals. (the harmonies on the chorus give it a real Rundgren sound/feel)
COOL guitar licks (another attention-to-detail thing...)
GORGEOUS solo.

A strong write.

MUSIC.

Stellar.

Torrey and Ron, contemporary gospel at its finest.

Great job on the vocal and arrangement.

Torrey you are a very talented multi-instrumentalist.

Thanks David! I had Lennon/McCartney in the back of my mind when working on the intro and verses.

Thanks Dan! This is one I had the music done before any lyrics came so it's outside the box of a normal p/w type song. TB

Neat Mellotron flute sound. Sort of prog-rock but not enough time signature changes. wink

Nice heavy guitars.

And, of course, your vocals and harmonies are cool.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Cool, cool, song.

The intro hooks me right in. Definite Beatles influence there.

Love the contrast in the chorus with that rocking riff.

Fantastic and very listenable Christian rock.

Slightly theatrical feel.

Torrey ...

I initially listened to this yesterday, or the day before. But I didn't have time to leave a comment. So, I'm here this evening.

I like this a lot! Ron and you are a great team - some super cool tracks over the months (years?). The power bass drives this for mw. And the background voices are spot on - add so much to the song. Your guitar work is always exceptional - as is your playing on the multitude of other instruments to play. And, of course, the vocals are sweet!

As David said - unusual sounds for a praise and worship tune. In my ears, the genre is an Alt Pop variety - and it works!

Exceptional work, gentlemen. Wishing both of you the very best.

Alan

Very cool intro Torrey. Boy do I like the way you mixed the vocals. Excellent tune. Awesome guitar work, solo and those repeating riffs. Just wow. Well done
