Hi All, Over the years I have written a number of songs about New York. Places I've been, lived and had experiences in. Some recorded, some not. Some were meant to be prequels or sequels to other songs. I may put them all together in a collection some day. Anyway, here’s one that has been "in the drawer" and is now finally recorded. This is called Halfway Through Poughkeepsie. Watching the day rise Canada Geese flying high The sounds of the morning And the moon still lights the sky But I’m halfway through Poughkeepsie As the rain turns to snow Yeah halfway through Poughkeepsie With roads and miles to go Running a shower In some old Budget Inn The mirror shows a bit of haze And the walls are paper thin But I’m halfway through Poughkeepsie As the rain turns to snow Yeah halfway through Poughkeepsie With roads and miles to go Rhythm on the radio Some old time Johnny Cash Ice before the bridge ahead And the road is made of glass But I’m halfway through Poughkeepsie As the rain turns to snow Yeah halfway through Poughkeepsie With roads and miles to go BIAB Tracks: 2474: Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085 2505: Piano, Electric, HeldChords 085 2914: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Folky16thBrent Ev16 085 832: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm, AltCountryMoody Ev 075 RealDrums: PopPromiseEv16^1-a: Snare on 4, HiHat, b: Snare As always - thanks for listening! Bob

Ah, so Bob-Dean good, man. Excellent choice with the sparce guitar first verse, and a wonderful build thereafter. I've been through Poughkeepsie a few times, but never stopped in the middle. I would have if I heard this song played in the park, especially with you singing it. Much enjoyed my listen, Bob!

Nicely done. I was there in that old budget inn.... been there a time or two.
Your lyrics always get me at how effortless they seem.
Good job

Sounds great. I like the guitar work in the beginning. Is that a Real Track or you playing? The arrangement is nice the way it builds and introduces the backing tracks.
As a fellow New Yorker you got me on the title.
Good job!

First-class singer-songwriter song. That is lyrically spot on. Excellent use of BIAB. No way to tell if this was played live or not.
Good stuff.

Another song that takes me somewhere, like walking through a memory. Great work, as usual.

Bob,
Another great one from you . . . crisp and moody, full of atmosphere. Your lyrics really shine here. Dave C. has it exactly right . . . it’s like walking though a memory. Your usual excellent work—stellar tune! Like that electric kicking in on the instrumental bridge.
All my best,
Deej

I had to look it up & then had to concentrate to find out if it was the town of city. The great American Roadtrip Song Book doesn't often get a reference to this place. The textures & dynamics of the song work really well. Well done.

Hi Bob ...
I'm always at a loss for words when I listen to your music. It's always so smooth and sounds like it took no effort whatsoever to write. But I'm sure it's not as easy as it always sounds. And your sparse backing tracks are always the perfect combination to transport the listener on a magical journey. Just so good, Bob!
I've been to Upstate New York a few times (it's beautiful) but never in that area. Mostly the Finger Lakes area and Watertown. But you just took me there. Thanks for another beautiful trip.
Alan

You've got "something of the masters" - if that makes sense - about you. A certain nobility in your voice, a certain refined, old veneer or something, when you sing and in your writing. It lifts you the extra mile from other pros, to the stratosphere of the masters. This is a superb song, no matter how deceptively simple it may seem. I could just see myself, travelling with you in spirit, on that road to Poughkeepsie. You captured it all splendidly ... I'm in awe Well done.

Elliott,
Thanks very much.
I wrote the song on my old D-18, but the recording is all Real Tracks.

Whoah, Bob! This is fantabulous and ginormous dude! So much drama and emotion cramped into such a small space. You built an entire world in a fishbowl! I am impressed, and jealous!!! Ok, that does it. I have to spin something up!!

I like your song and the lyrics and how you deliver them. What I'm always waiting for is a chorus. Is there a particular reason why most of your songs don't have one?

Bob,
Killer write. Songwriting lesson in three minutes. Excellent tracks. That acoustic sounds like it was played for the recording... Pro.
