Hi All,

Here's another new one...

This is called Morning Over New York.

The downstairs sink would be dotted with ash
And dawn burned from his cigarette glow
My father would spin the songs of the day
We’d hear him on Long Island radio

I would listen to music each night in my bed
With a Phillips transistor until ten
And I’d memorize every word that they sang
Until I could sing each verse with them
When morning rises over New York

Then my friend gave me an old Sigma guitar
I’d play three chords through the night
Now Dylan and Chapin would creak from the strings
And the sky saw a new streak of light
When morning rises over New York

A Brooklyn girl listens close to the phone
She’s transfixed and lost in the zone
Her mother worries that she’s gone and adrift
But she’s wrapped in the words of Taylor Swift
When morning rises over New York
When morning rises over New York

Killer man!!

Incredible lyrics and love the vibe!!

When do you sleep??

Ok, try this:

Brooklyn Rain
By David Snyder
In the style of Bob Dean

V1

When the dirty sick sun rises
Over Coney Island
You can hear the screams
Of the incoming trains
And there's strange ghost man standing
Under an Exxon sign
Chain smoking in the filthy morning rain

He takes off his glasses
Takes a shot of rye
Like he's looking at the nightmare in his dreams
And he wants to be Lou Reed
But he knows those days are gone
So now he only listens to Bob Dean

....

Well I haven't finished it yet but at least I have a start.

Hi Bob ...

Another piece of musical magic. Your talent simply amazes me. That cinematic pedal steel is the perfect topping for this delicious delight.

Wonderful listen.

About 20 years ago, I put together 11 songs that were to be in an album called "Sounds Of The City". I had one called "Sunday Sunrise". I love the songs as each one addressed a different sound of the big city - I used New York City, Manhattan in particular, as my inspiration.

Although those were all instrumentals, this one sure would have topped the thing off.

You have an uncanny knack for doing everything just right with your songs. It's always a pleasure to hear your music. I'm a big fan!

Alan

Bob: this is, once more, a class above. You sound so authentic and real, and the song is the real thing. So much talent, so much musical know-how. And you do this, everytime: a seemingly simply-built song that somehow just goes to the heart. You are a genius (I don't say this lightly).

Loved, particularly, the last stanza, about the girl wrapped in the words of Taylor Swift. Bravo ... it's a privilege to be able to hear your songs. Thank you so much for sharing.

Bob, you are so talented and entertaining. A fine mix and a good feel. Your lyrics are perfect. Love the story --very relatable. That pedal steel was an excellent choice. It gives the whole piece a rather nostalgic shine.

Also, can wait to hear Brooklyn Rain By David Snyder In the style of Bob Dean.

In the Style Of Bob Dean is also a good title. Just sayin'.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bob,

Love it.

A Well Written Song.

Excellent BAND. The steel is a really nice touch. Drums sounds great.
Good mix.

Interesting that you changed the rhyme scheme on the last verse (when you could swap lines 2 & 3 to keep the original rhyme scheme - don't think you would "lose" anything, meaning-wise.....)

Top-Shelf.

Cool record cover...

Wonderful song
Great lyrics, glad that you posted them, because I couldn't get them all in your mix, but reading them I am very impressed.
Nice choices of arrangement and use of real tracks. I especially like the pedal steel effects.
Good job, as a fellow New Yorker thanks

Alan,

Your reviews are always so kind. Thank you.

You should resurrect your "Sounds Of The City" album. That could be a great project.

Thanks again!

Alan already said it - magic.

You know how to spin a story from evocative fragments.

Love the arrangement. smile

Floyd,

Thanks so much. I appreciate that.

Good observation. Yes, just wanted to change things up a bit in the last verse.

Bob...I think this is your best stuff I've heard...if you had told me that Paul Simon wrote this I would totally have believed it...it is so well crafted and lyrically pristine...the band was crazy good...the style perfect to convey the story...your vocal was compelling and sincere...loved everything about it!

Bob, a great story set to music.

Loved that groove - brilliant instrumentation

You have posted a lot of excellent songs but IMHO this is your best to date.

Bob you are masterful at telling a story and producing an arrangement that fits.
I got a slight Gordon Lightfoot vibe on this one.
Great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Excellent song, Bob. Love the lyrics - so evocative (used to listen to a transistor radio in bed when I was a kid). Pedal steel is a perfect choice, but the whole band sounds great. Top shelf.

Leon
