Hi All,

Here's a new song from an old memory...

This one's called Gordon's Wildcat.

On a summer day in Yorkville
In an early morning rain
I could taste old smoke in the air
Hear music down the lane
Black paper cup of coffee
The Riverboat on my mind
A Martin D-18
Time to leave it all behind

The thing I remember most
The sound of the radio
From your gold tone Buick Wildcat
Fading out in stereo
Gold tone Buick Wildcat
Fading out in stereo

On a slow ride back to Lockport
I took the scenic route
The car was running cold and hot
The 8-track down and out
Cold wind coming over the lake
The thunder's getting loud
I could hear you singing softly
A storm above the crowds

The thing I remember most
The sound of the radio
From your gold tone Buick Wildcat
Fading out in stereo
Gold tone Buick Wildcat
Fading out in stereo

HI Bob ...

What a storyteller you are! And you always find the perfect backing tracks that give your lyric the most enriching embellishment

You have such a unique style and do it so dang well! I could listen to your stuff for hours and never get bored.

I think you might be the folk version of Tom T. Hall. That's about as high a compliment I can give to a lyricist. Like him, you tell stories in your song that put the listener right there, as though he were watching it play out in front of him.

Love it!

Alan

Hello Bob,

Yes that's what you are, a good storyteller with a guitar!
Or a troubadour with a band.

For a moment I thought your story is about a cat from Gordon.
But no, it was his car. And such a nice line in the chorus: "From your gold tone Buick Wildcat fading out in stereo".
Very visually sung.
But you are good at that!

Enjoyed it, Bob,

Hans

Nice ride along in the old Buick. The lyrics pulled me in and put me right there in that old car.

Hi Bob.
Wonderful lyrics. I would have liked to hear the tinkle of a simple lead acoustic in the break to echo the D-18.
Well done.

I suspect you'll cover an awful lot of the US with musical monograms over time.
I assume it's Yorkville in the US not Canada.
Really cool word pictures.
I'm not sure the percussion loop worked for me but it was an interesting experiment.
Well done.

Cheers

Ray,

It's Yorkville in Canada. A neighborhood in Toronto.

I think the percussion loop you are referring to is actually RT 3644: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking, IndieFolk Ev 085. It's a very percussive track. I mixed it way down, as it also has a lot of finger squeaks. It's a very cool sounding track, but has to be managed.

Appreciate the feedback - thanks.

Bob, you are one heck of a storyteller!

Great vocal, lyrics, and backing tracks that were mixed perfectly.

This is one of your best.

Great song - wonderful story telling, and a compelling vocal.

(That guitar squeak track is "interesting").

Loved the song.

Vic,

Thanks very much.

Yes, I thought about playing my own acoustic (also a D-18), but it was just easier to use all RTs. Plus, for some reason that indie fingerpicked RT really appealed to me.

Thanks again.
