Soundcloud link: Buckaroos - by Bob Buford

Buckaroos is an original song by Bob Buford, Producer, Summertown Recording Studios, Colorado.

This song is about growing up with Western music and eventually performing with the Western group, The Lazy B Wranglers, Estes Park, CO. But it's not a Western song, merely about the influences of that genre, the cowboy life, and the experience of being a Western singer. I'm not a cowboy although I did have a horse when I was a kid.

The arrangement starts out with all acoustic instrumentation and advances to a much fuller production with electric instruments and drums, including a House Techno drum loop for drive. Hard to imagine that working, but it does. All vocals and baritone electric guitar are my own performances.

This production uses multiple RealTracks exports from BIAB to Reaper in order to include all of the necessary instrumentation required for the song. See below.

Thanks for listening,
Bob

Bob,

This is terrific to listen to. It sounds great on my system. I really like the touch of nostalgia that you've managed to capture in the arrangement and performance... very skilfully done indeed. You definitely know how to write a good song!

Regards,
Noel

Bob, I was very impressed with this delivery.

Great clear vocals, and a really impressive melody.

I believe that you've brought together a really perfect mix of instruments here, this is just so well done.

Hey Noel...

How's things way down there? Thanks for your nice comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

Gotta say this is exactly the kind of project BIAB is made for. I wrote this song a little over a week ago on Nov 9 and completed production and posted it to my Facebook page on Nov 16. Had I been using a commercial studio I'd still be trying to book time and line up players.

Man, this was fun.
Thanks for listening,
Bob

VT, thanks for the nice comments. I didn't realize when I chose this style that I would use all the instrumentation it included. Actually I'm not sure how I found the style since my subsequent searches in the Stylepicker didn't bring it up. But regardless, I ended up using all the instruments and adding others. Strange how that works out sometime, eh? In the end a really fun project.

Thanks for listening,
Bob

Magical stuff Bob. How perfect is that tremolo guitar chord, what a hook!
A lovely haunting song beautifully produced, and sung with a feeling.

A good listen, Bob. The first couple of tremolo chords hit a bit loud on my speakers, it settles in later on, as it goes. Nice write and vocal. Captured the "cowboy song" well.

Really excellent stuff, Bob. That baritone guitar sounds unreal, too. Would be great to see the lyrics for this one! I think I hear that techno line, too -- it comes in at 2.55-ish, right? Just like you said it's hard to imagine that working but it sure does smile smile

Hi, Will. Thanks for your nice comments. Glad you enjoyed the song. Not sure of the time for the techno loop, but it begins with the last chorus and runs through the end of the song.

Thanks for listening,
Bob

Buckaroos
Bob Buford © 2016

Had an old white mare named Mattie, around the time that I was five
My grandpa gave her shelter, and he helped her to survive
Seems she’d had a life of trouble with a man who didn’t care
And when I climbed up in the saddle, I was a cowboy riding there.

I remember ol’ Cool Water playing on the radio,
My cowpoke pardner, Danny, well he was in that song, ya know.
Oh, not really, but we thought so, as we rode across the plains
Cowboy pals forever, now the memory’s what remains

We were wranglers in the saddle, we were riders on the wind
Bronco bustin’ mavericks, headed up around the bend
Been a long time since those old days
And I miss those pards, ya know
Though we never wrangled cattle
Not a single rodeo

Twenty-eight years later, we were up there on the stage
Keeping up the image, after Western was the rage
Stetson hats and Wranglers, Tony Lama Buckaroos
Time was gaining on us, and we had nothing else to lose.

‘Cause we were wranglers in the saddle, we were riders on the wind
Six-gun totin’ mavericks, headed up around the bend
Been a long time since those old days
And I miss those boys, ya know
No, we never wrangled cattle
Not a single rodeo

We were wranglers in the saddle, we were riders on the wind
Six-gun toting mavericks, headed up around the bend
Stetson hats and Wranglers, Tony Lama Buckaroos
Yea We All Rode Up The Draw, played our songs, and paid our dues.

Hi Bob, You have done a great job here, as others have stated, creating a hauntingly beautiful sound. I like the way you had the instrumentation building as the song went along. Take care, Torrey.
