This song is about the loneliness of the outsider, but I've left room for you to add your own thoughts and interpretations! whistle

Almost all of the parts for this song came from two Band In A Box styles RealTracks as follows:
Style: _SHINSYN.STY Praise & Worship Shining w/Synth Pad: Chugging guitar (R), Piano, Synth.
Style: _SHINUPL.STY Pop Shining w/Uplifting Electric guitars: Chugging guitar (L), Bass, Jangling guitar

I used Addictive Drums for the drum part, and added the lead guitar solos and vocals.
Soundcloud track: Here.
Technical notes: Here.

The next song is going to be upbeat and happy, I promise!!

(View in 1080 if it doesn't switch to that automatically)

I’ve always been on my own; I don’t really mind.
My journey is nearly done, my shadow is right behind.
I closed my ears to the world and all its lies,
When there was too much to see I just shut my eyes.
Only I know how dark it feels,
The pictures in my head will stay concealed.

I’m free to do what I like and say what I feel,
I won’t bend to anyone: don’t expect me to kneel.
I’ve done no one any harm or been the cause of pain,
I just don’t understand the way people play these games.
But it’s too late now, my fate is sealed.
And the pain inside no one can steal.

What makes you think you can mend a broken man
When so many others have failed to even understand?
Who are you to say that life is just a dream?
And with a touch of your hand I can be redeemed?
Tell me something I can see is real:
I have too many wounds for you to heal.

Regards
John

Wonderful. It has a Pink Floyd kind of feel to it that I adore. Muted power in backing, vocals, and lead that humanize the lyric for me. The video was a delight to watch as well.

Excellent!

Too many great lines to list them all, but one that speaks to me is: "What makes you think you can mend a broken man
When so many others have failed to even understand?"

Nice changes, the chorus especially was unexpected but cool. Also liked your vocal and of course your guitar work is right on the money. Overall just a great, professional sound to the production.

Good stuff, John! Oh, video was cool too smile

Hi John,
I like very much this song !
All is quite well done.
I'm sure that a singer like Sting would like to sing it.
Congratulations. Christian

Tango mentioned the Pink Floyd feel, that struck me as well.

I watched the video, it's so professionally good!

the music mix is excellent in my phones

your guitar playing is smooth, tasteful, and so good

some of the rhyme in the lyric felt forced to me

but it tells the story well

it's just a great song

Personally touching lyrics, I find some of myself there, also theme I have handled lyrically lately.
Enjoyable band, guitars sound the way I really like. Nice intro, great soloing. Interesting chord progression. Vocals are mixed excellently. I hear several British influences from the seventies.

Your song makes my ears happy. smile

Not that it's a happy song - good write.

No need to look for the upbeat and happy path, you're doing just fine where you are.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Yep, Ray said it all!

So little to add but:

The Pink Floyd feel is definitely there and expertly executed.

Powerful lyric and vocal performance with a genuinely anthemic production.

We love "connect your own dots" songs and this is a great one.

Great well conceived video!

Kudos!!!

That was great, very pro. I liked the stops and changes, and the iconic guitar riff at 4:05. Whole thing was tops.
