Hey so I was feeling in kind of a Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Bowie mood so I did this. (I might also add: GRACE JONES.) I had fun, at least. I may revisit the mix after comments but for the moment I am moving on!

(I have been doing some edits on this based on comments--and may replace the file again. I am not worried about losing clicks I am trying to get it right.)

I did make the verse and chorus more melodic--more on that later. I have to do other stuff right now. smile

A friend asked me" "What is this about, dude?" And I replied: "I was hoping you would tell me."

To put the blame
you need a man who runs for cover
To put the blame
you need to open up the border
To put the blame
you need a man who sniffs the finger
to put the blame
you need a man whose son’s a hunter

CH

We got prisons for you, prisons for me
prisons for children, bullies for free
it's a game,
but it drives you insane

V2

To put the blame
you need a man who
takes us under
To put the blame
you must destroy the social order
to put the blame
You must pit one against the other
To put the blame
You must pillage, rape and plunder

CH

But it's justified, so tell those lies
for your side
til we're all anesthetized
spread ‘em wide
it's just a game
you must destroy the social order
pillage, rape and plunder

CH

Fan the flame, rig the game
hand out names
make sure you get an ice cream cone

fan the flame, rig the game
hand out names
make sure you get an ice cream cone

tax the air
sniff some hair, build despair
make sure you get an ice cream cone
make sure you get an ice cream cone
it’s just a game

David,

You have some of the most exciting music on this forum... Along with your other influences, I would also throw in some Iggy Pop.

This was EPIC!

You sure know how to constantly reinvent yourself, David!

This one might even make you Fam(e)ous ;-).

The mix, and particularly the drums sound very spatial. Good work!

The vocals indeed kinda remind me on Talking Heads in a good way. I think the song is also good. But I think there are changes needed to get to the full potential

The first thing which I would change (if it was my song): the hi-pitched more monotonic vocals in the verses build up a LOT of tension, and a melodic chorus would nicely release this tension. (The Talking Heads coincidentally have a nice example of what I mean: https://youtu.be/O52jAYa4Pm8?t=68)

Your chorus starts promising, but kinda goes nowhere.
Maybe make the first 2 lines of the chorus a pre-chorus and then create a melodic chorus.

I'm quite new here in this forum, so I hope it's okay to bluntly write my opinion...

Dave you are the master of many genres.

Super vocal and I loved those lyrics!

Great groove and band mixed to perfection.

Loved it.

Blame, blame, blame, blame, blame, it's a shame, who'll we name?

You pulled together a very cool piece of Lennon/Bowie vinyl soul.

Fame was the sound check when I saw Bowie in 78...we were outside the stadium but the sound was great.

I wouldn't change anything in the arrangement or mix.

Ah, good answer. To me it's about making good music, and for that I blame you, David. You are such an interesting master of this craft. "pillage, rape and plunder" but "make sure you get an ice cream cone". My vote is to keep it monotonous.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Well, you just gave Janice dance fever and she says this is her favorite song of yours. smile

Great write, vocal, band, mix, instrumental performances and, yeah, BOWIE!

Thematically? Ain't it the truth.

Good one, David!

Thanks B.D.

I actually changed the vocal to make it much more melodic per your recommendation. I think it helps and improves it actually.

CREATIVE. ART.

You are, by far, the most creative writer/musician 'round these parts...

Balanced. You seem to stand in the middle (and off to the side) and point fingers in both directions.
(You should read "How Fascism Works" by Jason Stanley - and then write a song, of course).

Killer Music. Love the BAND.
Excellent vocal!
Good mix.

Well Done.

You blow my mind. (I'm fairly certain that is your intent).

David,
Great groove, madcap lyrics and a Byrne-channeled vocal; nothing needs changing on the mix, but the musical order has been destroyed once again!

Hey david ...

Busy in a real entertaining way. what a musical mash-up. I didn't hear the original, but this puppy barks real nicely. I can see this in a movie with a lot of sh*t-faced people partying a wee bit too hard. You make obscure way too much fun! Cool, for sure. You're a master of creativity. Tip of the cap!

As far as the Bowie references, I can't say as I never listened to him very much. But I do think it's a great topping for a Snyder ice cream come!

Alan
