I Lost a Friend

Jon DeTar (JonD), a great friend, fellow musician (excellent keyboard player), and one of my collaborators has died. This is my tribute to him. I attempted to express sadness, pain so bad that you just want to scream, happiness that he is going to heaven, then back to sadness. I tried to write this chord progression in the style of Jon's writing.

As always all comments welcomed.

PS - If this isn't enough Jon is the third friend whom has passed this year!

BiaB Style - 128/45 = 12/8 @T45 Slow 12/8 Jazz
Tempo = 45BPM
Bass - Ample Bass Jazz Bass
Piano - Waves Grand Rhapsody
Guitar - Kontakt - Library Jazz Guitar
Strings - EastWest Play Symphonic chorus - Full Chorus
Me - Via my Wind controller the alto sax

It's never easy when we lose a friend. They are family that we have chosen for ourselves and that makes the pain and loss so much more evident in our soul.

It's nice that you expressed your grief in this manner.

Nice tribute to your friend. That sax just cries.

Man Mario, that's rough. This however, is a great piece of music to offer as a tribute. I'm glad to hear your assurance that he is in heaven, but very sorry for the pain you're left with. Hang in there.

Mario,

I've got a sad place in my heart for you as I listen to this! It's really tough to lose those we know so well but I'm certain you've got many great memories to reflect back on and be thankful for those times!

Your track really catches that sad/reflective vibe but also has such a pleasant warm sound! You did such a great job with this!

Thanks, Torrey

Having similar experiences over the year we can very strongly relate to this beautiful tribute.

The melody and your performance on the controller so well set the mood.

May he RIP.

Hi Mario,
With your wind controller, you've managed to share your pain and your love for music. Your friend, wherever he is now, will be proud of you.

Hi Mario,

With this song you gave a wonderful tribute to your late friend!
What a nice, sensitive song it is. I bet he would have cried if he could have heard it.

Wow, Mario, this is quite an emotional farewell to Jon. I like the piano in there too. It's never easy, brother, and music helps. So sorry for your loss, and quite happy for your gain. The dirge-like tempo is a beautiful touch --like you don't want it to be over. And it's not really.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx everyone for your very kind words. Jon's funeral was today and there were very few dry eyes in the house. He did marry his long time girl friend the day prior to his death and I am glad for that as that was his final wish.

Mario...I hear the sadness in your song...it is so appropriate to honor a friend, fellow writer and musician with a song...what else could express how we feel better than the thing (music) that was such a special part of Jon's life...may he rest in peace like we would rest in a peaceful melody...and may he know the joy of writing a brand new song!
