You Got My Head In The Clouds is a Big Band song I wrote dreaming about the pure joy of escaping your cares dancing to big band music. The video is my little tribute to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers for making it look so effortless and like they're having such great fun. Thanks for listening. God Bless, Josie Beck

Hi Josie,

The vocals are way too loud for the mix and also need some reverb.

Best Regards
Nigel

Thanks Nigel. It has a 140 plate verb on it and a delay. If others care to chime in and agree with you I'll try to address it - can't today husband has chemo at hospital.

Hi, Josie. This is a really cool song. Love all that Ginger and Fred stuff. Wonderful tribute with a bit of autobiographical yearning. Excellent lyrics. This is a good light song and I can definitely see them floating across the stage. I always... well usually side with Nigel's expert advice. It would be worth a try, but I like your vocal out front. It IS a bit dry, but it's reverb seems to match the rest of the music perfectly. All of these slider-moving suggestions are just opinions, and you know what they say about opinions. Give Don my warm wishes.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey Josie,

I love this. For me, you have nailed the sound and feel of the standards in the mid 1940s to early 1950s. I think the production is great. Almost sounds like a long lost Rosemary Clooney song.

Excellent!

All my best to you and Don.

Really love the whole package, the video is possibly the best I've seen here. Fred Astaire is one of my favorites, I thought he was so old and square growing up but now I think he's DA MAN! He was quite good on piano, too. Volume level is the easiest of fixes. Very entertaining!

I have to agree with Nigel for a change: a softer, blending reverb and less vocal level...possibly even an high pass filter at 80Hz or so p\on the vocal to allow the bass some space.
I thought the horns clashed a bit, with each other & the vocal, because they are strident and aren't riffing on the vocal melody or visa versa.
Nice song.

Cheers

Josie,

Nice song capturing the era appropriately. Fun to hear the BIAB Big Band Horns being used.

Maybe just a bit more reverb on the vocal...

Josie...love to hear this era of music...not much brass used these days...cool song...very pleasing, light and joyful...technically I tend to agree with Nigel and Ray but also with Marty...mixing is very subjective...perhaps listen to some music from that era and try to match their mixing techniques...listen to some Rosemary or Ginger tracks...lovely voice and performance as usual for you!

We both love big band music ... Bud's parents played it during the 50's when he was a kid.

Janice is a HUGE Fred and Ginger fan.

So this was right in the wheelhouse smile

We felt your phrasing nailed the vibe of the big band era which, BTW, we still listen to.

Good job on the video ... excellent images!

Hi Josie.

I love what you've done. Your composition, your arrangement, your performance and your Youtube clip are outstanding.

As I've mentioned many times on this forum, Tin Pan Alley music is the genre with which I feel most comfortable and you nailed it. I love, love, love listening to the big band sound of the 1930s – 1950s. Interestingly, I've never written a song starring these BIAB Realtracks because they intimidate me and my vocals aren't quite good enough to blend in with these tracks. That's why, more than than anything, I'm absolutely blown away by what you've done, and I admire you greatly for succeeding!

I'm so sorry to hear that your hubby is having chemo. I sincerely hope that he's doing okay.

All the very best and sending lots of healing thoughts your way,
Noel

Nicely done, good video, vocal, and the big band sound was put together well.

Josie,

Love the backing on this--you really captured the big band sound. I'm in Nigel's camp on the vocal--definitely think it could sit a bit more in the mix. Good suggestion on the reverb. Cool tune!

All my best,

Deej

Big band is not what I usually listen to, but I really like this song, I think you captured the feel of that time well.

I don't think your vocals (which are really good) need more reverb, maybe just dial them down a bit and call it a day.

Best get-well-soon wishes for your husband!

Hi Josie ...

First, very sad to hear your husband's going through chemo. Been there, done that (2015). I didn't have as many negative reactions to the process as most people, but strill no fun. I wish him the very best.

Loved your song! Di and I are both huge fans of Big Band music from the 40s and 50s. Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc. And If I had a dollar for every time I watched a Frad Astaire and/or Ginger Rogers movie, I could pay off my house! My mother was a wonderful Big Band vocalist but only sang at home and the several taverns my father ran. Di and I have written and recorded a number of Big Band songs.

And you really nailed it! Everything was there and it all worked in perfect unison. Your vocal was fabulous!

As far as the reverb, vocals weren't recorded with reverb at all back then, so I'm good with that. Although Hammond organs were available with reverb in the 1930s, the first vocal using reverb (and it was very convoluted - mic and speaker in a bathroom) was "Peg Of My Heart" on late 1947. It wasn't until the late 1950s that reverb started being commonly used on vocal recordings.

As far as your vocal being too loud - perhaps a wee bit. But I didn't find it distracting in the least.

I loved it! I think you did a fantastic job in the creation and production of the song. Two thumbs up - great work!

Alan

Thanks Marty, So happy you like the song and for your thoughts. Don is handling the chemo well with only a couple of side effects. He'll get cat scans in a couple of weeks to see how well it's working.

Great ear catch on Rosemary C.! So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much.

I wrote the song in about 15 minutes - it just rolled out. Love it when that happens. Later I changed a couple of lines.

Thank you very much! You know they say Fred was fantastic but Ginger had to do it backwards wearing heels. grin So glad you enjoyed it.

Well done Josie!
And they really are a nice couple, very good dancers.
We've used them for the video of one of our songs too!
