Golden Memories
written and sang by Larry Smith

It's a country rock song based on the _cbge_pd style.

I played acoustic and sang it. All the rest is from Band in a Box, tracks saved as waves and ported into my daw. I regenrated the 1669 pedal steel solo by Paul Franklin several times and pieced together the parts I liked to make the steel part.

I enjoyed putting it together very much and hope you enjoy listening!

Welcome to this forum, Larry.

I think you did a really nice job putting this together.

I know it can take a little effort sometimes to get the pedal steel RTs to work throughout the entire song. You really succeeded here.

Good, storytelling lyrics as well.

Rob

Nice country song and sound you have there. I'm a pedal steel fanatic. I love the instrument. I've had the chance to meet and talk with Paul Franklin several times over the years and he's one of my very favorite steel pickers, both in playing ability and personality. He's very quick and inventive with his stuff, for me however a lot of his Biab stuff is so busy it's hard to fit into a song without over doing it. In your particular song here, the steel ride seems exceptionally long. For me I really like it, because like I said, I'm a steel fanatic. Others may think it's too long though. I'm glad you posted this, it was fun to listen to - and welcome to the forum!

Larry,

A good first post.
Nice use of BIAB.
Very mid-80's-Country sound. And you have a good voice for the style.
Nicely mixed.

I love the classic country feel to this, Larry! Great job incorporating the pedal steel. I also like how you used the hook in the chorus. Have you thought about trying to book end the hook in the chorus?

Hello Larry ...

Welcome to the forum.

This is a very nice way to introduce yourself to us. I grew up playing classic country - a few years before this style, though. Played my first gig at the age of 15 in 1962 at a dive in suburban St. Louis.

Very nicely done. Your mix is really good. And your vocal is real nice. I only sing when I want to annoy someone - I'm usually pretty successful! Looking forward to more of your music.

Alan

Welcome, Larry.

I'm a sucker for good story-songs and this one didn't disappoint.
You did well with the pedal steel although I felt that the instrumental break was a tad long (62 secs).
Nice vocals and harmonies made for a great country song. Well done.

Ghostgum.

I like this one a lot, it has a nice mood and a wonderful melody. And your vocals are a perfect match for this genre.

That's what I do as well lately, generating several takes and put the best parts together seems to be the most convenient way to get what you want.

I also think the solo is a tad too long, I would probably end it around 2:11.
But I know nothing about country music, so take this with a grain of salt...

Welcome to the forum, Larry.

We like the nostalgic lyric and the performances. Good lead and harmony vocals!

You worked a charm with the steel solo.
We also do a lot of comping up tracks with regens. Great work.

Some of my (Janice) earliest memories are of being rocked by my Granny and those are treasured memories for sure.

Enjoyed this!
