One more song, from me. Was humming round the house, today, prior to having a much deserved Friday evening dinner - the idea came to me, and lo and behold ... I just had to sit down and write this. Three hours later, here we are ... I dearly hope it was worth my time, as - if nothing else - I'm starving ;-)

Anyway, see what you think? Comments of all kind welcome - thanks :-)

Songs of Glee

THE LYRICS:

It's been so long e'er since I saw you last,
And time in life goes by ever so fast,
I've loved and lost ever so oft,
And I still cry when I think of you, ever so soft.

I'm scared I'll forget you, e'er so soon,
I'm scared I'll fall in love, and, by the moon,
I'll sing t'another songs of glee,
I'm scared I won't remember you, you see.

It's been now quite a while since we last kissed;
I wonder if you me have ever missed ...
I wonder if your eyes have ever seen
Some tears, or regret at what could've been.

So many years have gone, and have now passed
Since I've been made to live as an outcast;
Since life's own pleasures I refuse to taste,
Ever since that day you left my life, in haste.

I'm told you're happy, living life in full,
I'm not too bad, though life's ever so cruel;
I'll go and dance, and smile, for it's now time
To realise that you're no longer mine ...

but you see ...

I'm scared I'll forget you, e'er so soon
I'm scared I'll fall in love, and, by the moon,
I'll sing t'another songs of glee,
I'm scared I won't remember you, you see.

I'm scared I'll forget you, e'er so soon
I'm scared I'll fall in love, and, by the moon,
I'll sing t'another songs of glee,
I'm scared I won't remember you, you see.

The title piqued my interest and I learned pretty quickly that the glee was only from the past. The story really, really kept my interest right up to the end, I think it ranks among your best. There was a time when I thought we could collectively get you to sing but I think I realize now that's not gonna happen. No problem because I understand your oeuvre now. (I rarely sing, which is a good thing.) We all should be appreciated however we present ourselves. Enough babble, this was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More like this, please!

Aaah... now you sing!
It's really not bad, you should do it more often.
Nice song.
When I heard your pronunciation of "last" and "fast" (as a:)I looked where you live.
UK of course!
That's the way I learned to pronounce those words smile
You seldom hear it at this forum.
But I noticed... Adèle does it too!
Rob always wants me to use the American way of pronouncing it (as ae)
But sometimes I use the British pronunciation. It sounds a bit softer.

James,

An interesting write.
A comfortable progression.
Mix sounds good.
You have been very productive this year!!

I'd find some alternative to
"I wonder if you me have ever missed"
It's a very awkward sentence.

You're well on the road for a 2022 triple album release! smile

It taxes me to try and get a write completed every couple of months ... so I dive into the public domain!

OK...enough babble Bud.

The write is nice in a bit of a Victorian manner and your vocal performance well delivered it.
And the open mellow mix serves it all up nicely.

HI James ...

You should sing more often! I loved quick the repetitive key changes in the piano break and then leading back into the vocal. You know I'm a sucker for interesting chord combinations! Very nicely done, James!

Hope dinner was good! we had hamburger steaks, fried potatoes, and peas for dinner. YUM!

That was an enjoyable listen!

Alan

TuneMonger: thank you! I'll try to sing, if I can and when I can. I'm just too lazy to write melodies, sometimes, if truth be told ... but it's worth it, so I'll try! Thanks for listening!

Anne-Marie: yes, UK-based :-) . I forgot completely about any American pronunciation, haha. Thanks for your nice comments about my voice, too - if a singer like you thinks it's not that bad, that's a great thing in my book :-)

floyd: thanks for listening. Yes, that sentence is awkward indeed, but I don't know how to replace it, especially as the whole meaning and flow is vital to the song. I'll see! And yes, I've been writing more than usual!

Janice and Bud: I've told you this before, Bud: you two are pros, so it's natural that it takes you longer, so that you get things just right; I just write, record and that's it - that's why I'm quicker, I think, that's all :-) Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed the song - thank you ever so much for listening, I really appreciate it!

Alan: I actually skipped dinner, that day ... but hopefully it was worth it. Your dinner sounds delicious!!! :-) And yes, I wanted to keep a simple chord progression for the sung parts, this time - but couldn't help go a little crazy in the bridge, haha. Thanks ever so much for listening!!!

Sweet, James. Sad but sweet. You are a really good writer, and I like how you "sing." Yes, it's more spoken than sung, but there is always more than conversational inflection, and you bring the passion nd emotion without jumping to the high note. That is very difficult to do, but you manage it with ease. You always have an implied melody that silently but noticeably is strongly hinted at with your vocal. You are a class act, brother.

Enjoy whatever happens!

James,

You did a nice job putting together this song! I like the sound of your backing instruments and once again it's good to hear you sing parts of the tune!

Thanks, Torrey

Marty, you often move me with your kind words, but this time you've also left me totally speechless. You are incredibly kind, and a class act par excellence, yourself. Thanks so much for listening and, once more, for your wonderful comments.

Torrey: thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my little effort. It's so nice to hear from you.

James,
Your style is familiar now and ( though some of us will still ask you to sing!) your soft spoken delivery suits the underlying sadness of the lyric.
I liked the changes and piano backing... perhaps there could have been a solo instrument to come in on the breaks?
Impressive writing for your short production timeline.

Scott: thanks! Really kind of you to listen and thanks for such nice comments :-)

Robert: thanks. I thought about the solo instrument in the break, left it like this for now, but I will think on it again. As for the singing - I actually do want to sing more, when I write more - a melody can add something that a spoken track on its own cannot. We'll see :-) Thanks again, your comments mean a lot to me.

I listened and commented soon after RnMA but it seems, yet again, that my comment has disappeared...oh well.
James,
GOOD,
You've sung bits and that tells me you could sing more. Marty's reference to implied melody is good...it's there and just needs a little encouragement to come forward.
Nice work sir!

Cheers

James, I think you should sing more often (even if it's more of a spoken vocal), it makes the song and the lyrics more interesting.

Ray: thanks :-) I think I will indeed sing more from now on, if only because a melody to a song gives it an extra dimension that spoken words alone can't always do. We'll see ... but that's hopefully the way I'm headed. Thanks for your wonderfully kind comments!

B.D. Thomas: thanks :-) As I've just written above, in my reply to Ray, I will give it a shot - I think - from now on! I agree - it gives it an extra something, so why not? Thanks for listening and for your comments!
