Notes:

It had to be done.

On this tune, I went a little overboard and tried to max out the possibilities of BIAB. In addition to BIAB RT and Midi (to get the big 80s drums sounds) I used the vocal synth in BIAB to create the backing vox, to channel my inner Shigeki. Then I layered the main vox with 80s effects from Nectar 2. I am happy with what happened.

Also, most of the synths are from the “Band-in-a-Box sounds” that come with the Sforzando VST that comes with BIAB. I think these are underrated. The sounds are great and I use them all the time in song-writing, and here, as a mainstay of the production.

Following the Science

V1

Now I'm following the Science
And I'm working for the government
And my daddy loads my crack pipe
And I wonder where my brain went
I've been cheating since the first grade
And I've never earned an honest cent
But I'm following the Science
And my head is thick as cement

CH

Science! It's in my blood!
Science! Gonna poke me good!
Science! I'm an experiment!
Kicking it and taking names
Playing lots of party games
Science!!
Following the Science!!!

V2

And my secret name is Batman
And I work for Dr. Fuchu
And I’m working for the Hunter
The Big Guy and the New Crew
We’ll be stabbing you with chemicals
So you can feel your deepest fears
And you’ll be following the science
And you will not shed a tear
Not a tear

CH

Science! It's in my blood!
Science! Gonna poke me good!
Science! I'm an experiment!
Kicking it and taking names
Playing lots of party games
Science!
I’m following the Science!

Bridge:

And you may ask yourself
How did I get here?!
And you may ask yourself
What the hell went wrong!?
And you may ask yourself
What’s going to happen next!
And you may ask yourself
How long will this go on!

Thomas Dolby and David Byrne DNA Splicing brings us:
Blinded Me With Once in a Lifetime Science.

An interesting melange that invokes Oingo Boingo as much as Thomas & David.
The vocal synth at the beginning works really well.

Aw, heck. Ray spoiled it already. wink

Or as my son says: Very legally distinct.

Well done, Mr. Snider! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

YEOW!! Outstanding work, David. Your inner Shigeki is really cool right from the start. You're right, those drums kick a hard path through the song, and those Biab synth sounds are good. I've used them in writing too, and recently used a few in some songs. Everything sounds great, and the lyrics and your vocal delivery are superb.

Enjoy whatever happens!

David, outstanding vocal and lyrics. The mix was spot on. Loved every part of this song.

On the down side I'll bet you'll be band from twitter and facebook.

Mario,

The even better news is I am not on Facebook and have never been on Twitter.

I was on Facebook for one day and didn't get it or see why anyone would waste two seconds there.

That is just me. Too addicted to BIAB I guess.

I think I've just had a flashback to a song I've never heard before. What have you done to me David?

And now the phrase "twice in a lifetime" is bouncing around in my head!

Well done. I really enjoyed it!
