When I was a kid we used to sit on Mamaw and Papaw's front porch in the hills of central Kentucky and sing songs like this.

You know sometimes less is more...especially in recording...I have a tendency to over-fill and thus over-kill my mixes...this is a chorus I wrote and a great old gospel song I married together...they're about as simple as I could do them...so if you do...thanks for listening (and I always enjoy your comments and find them very encouraging)...thanks...Dan

Dan,

This is a great song and a very nice mix of instrumentation. The guitars sound excellent.

Your performance as always is outstanding. You have a great voice and are a complete pleasure to listen to.

Much enjoyed!

Dan, another outstanding gospel song that is radio ready.

Everything is perfect as usual.

"I have a tendency to over-fill and thus over-kill my mixes" I disagree. Everything that you have posted always sounded perfect to me, i.e. no over-fill.

Hi Dan,

I'm impressed how you make these lovely sounding songs! I listened several times to this one (too).
They sound great for what about the song, the melody your vocals and the 'simple' accompaniment in your songs.
I won't repeat my thoughts on the content, but you made it all sound fantasic.
A pleasure listening to,, Hat off ( if you can say it like that)!

I can only underline what Andi wrote.
So many greetings,
Hans

Dan,

A very nice "unplugged" production.
Those are some really early RTs!! (even then it was AMAZING technology)
Strong vocals.
A cool write.
Another excellent offering.

Hey Dan,

Yes I agree! Great "unplugged version."

I could hear a whole album like this, with not much more. People love soothing hymns like this done in a simple way.

Great vocals by the way.

Hi, Dan.

Excellent.

Even with a "simple" arrangement, the arrangement builds and grows.

And, of course, excellent singing and harmony.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The source hymn is one of my favorite to sing.

All sounds good to me: Mix and instrumentation, vocal is spot on, and vocal interpretation works well.

Dan,

This is a terrific, warm and engaging recording. The less is more approach is one it takes great discipline to embrace. Like you, I tend to throw the kitchen sink at some of my songs . . . and then I wonder why it’s so hard to mix, and lacks clarity. I’m really trying with every song now to question whether I really need an instrument. I’m rarely successful in cutting as much as I know I should. But you’ve done that here. Perfect balance and so crystal in its production. Just excellent!

Hope all is well in your world,

Deej

Deej...All IS well in my world...thanks for the comments....it's nice to know that someone I respect so much as an artist, arranger and writer deals with the same challenge that I do...your stuff is always great, tasteful and spot-on...I appreciate your thoughts and all the other super folks who've commented so far...Dan

Hi Dan ...

You are one of the best vocalists on the forum. Your vocals are always so warm and so easy to listen to. Great song and message. Nobody does these hymns and gospels as well as you do. You took the least and made it sound, musically, like the most. Excellent in every way.

Alan

"You can't go wrong with Firesong"

Great job, Daniel!

This is always a favorite at the nursing homes and senior centers! Your production and vocals are AWESOME!

I love how you slowly increase the intensity of the production with the bass, then dobro, then drums and mandolin!

Dan, I've been away for a while, and I have missed listening to great songs like this one. I love the mix. The harmony is superb, and the dobro is great...

Sweetly sung. Best version ever! Remarkable harmony with a professional sound. Yes, less instruments and more voices --excellent choice. Expertly mastered, and your usual uplifting spirit, Dan. Much enjoyed.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Not necessarily my favorite genre, but a good song is a good song.
I like it, especially your vocals are very good.

Wow. One of your very best. Your vocals are, as always, immaculate. Your introduction is perfect for this well-known hymn. What else is there to say? It's not usually my genre, BUT: you make it sound so beautiful, so effortless, so sincere ... it's so beautiful, the whole song - an excellent example of what you do, musically, overall. Well done.

That’s a very good addition to the classic hymn and the arrangement works well.

Janice and her Mama always enjoyed singing “What a friend” with Janice’s Mama playing piano. Mama Ern would have loved your song!

Excellent vocals and band. The “less is more” is a winner here. Bud often says perfection is when there is nothing left to take away.

Well done!

Cool version of the song Dan. I can imagine the family sitting around and joining in on the choruses of the song. Very well done.
